New Year, New Focus

Happy New Year!!  I can’t believe it’s already 2020.  I feel like the holidays went by faster than usual.  How is this possible.

Many people say they don’t bother making New Year’s resolution.  That comment always makes me wonder and also makes me a bit sad.  Why wouldn’t you want to make goals and challenges to accomplish for the next year?  If not, what will you focus on?  How will you know what direction you need to go if you don’t know what you are creating or causing?

Perhaps my age has something to do with it.

I am 50 (soon to be 51 in less than a month!) and realize the preciousness of time.  I realize that, while I don’t consider myself old, I do realize that I’d better get going with my goals if I want to accomplish them before I get too old and can’t do it!

My New Year’s resolution includes the typical: start exercise program, reading, writing…a lot of “doing” I suppose.

But this year my approach will be a little different: I’m focusing on creating the feelings I want to experience.

What does that even mean?

It means that if I want to be happy, I have to create opportunities to actually experience that.  The fun part is that I get to say what that looks like and the options are endless.

I want to experience loving moments with each of my family members.  For me, that means spending one on one time with each of them is on my To Do list.  So I write it down, in real time activities, making time to let it happen.  It’s a little different approach, but one that makes me excited at the thought.  And how fun it is to create it!!

Another feeling I want to have is being accomplished.  For me, it’s something as simple as checking off items on my to do list (I love doing reverse To Do lists!).  So I started with a new planner (anyone else obsessed with planners like me?) and created my long ass To Do list and gleefully check them off.

What are your New Year resolutions?  And how will you make it happen?

No matter the route, just be sure to have some so that YOU get to say how 2020 turns out!!
